The Type 2 (T2) was the second generation of VW ‘Vans’ and were produced from 1967 to 1979.
Commonly known as the ‘Bay Window’ due to its single curved windscreen which replaced the ‘Split screen’
The van that Vintage Classics has to offer is a 1978 model fitted with the 1600 air cooled engine and is affectionally known as ‘Shelley’
Shelley is finished in an eye-catching colour combination of Silver and Coral and has a Vanwurks interior.
Without a raising roof, it keeps its ‘cool’ van looks, but if extra headroom is needed, on a sunny day there is a folding fabric sunroof to let some sunshine in.
The front seats have been converted to a more modern style with headrests, offering more adjustment and therefore comfort. The passenger seat can swivel (when stationary) to face the rear occupants.
Servo brakes and an upgraded gear lever are a couple of modifications we have carried out to improve the driving experience.
As we currently only have one campervan we are not in the same market as the mainstream campervan hirers. As such, we envisage the van being used mainly for weddings, proms, day trips etc. however it does have the facilities for an overnight stay. A ¾ rock and roll bed converts the rear seat into a narrow double bed within seconds. There is a sink fed by a water bottle and a gas cooker.
Please note, Shelley isn’t into festivals and therefore will not be available to hire for any festival or event.
The van is a 4 seater, driver and three passengers and can sleep 2. Seatbelts are inertia reel in the front and nothing in the back.
